YEAR2012 Judging Criteria

Your abstract will be reviewed based on the following criteria:

Scientific Merit 60%
Relevance to the Industry 30%
Presentation 10%

Scientific Merit

Research must:

  • address an important problem
  • advance scientific knowledge by the completion of this project
  • be appropriate to the research field being investigated
  • have conceptual framework, design, methods, and analyses adequately developed, well-integrated, and appropriate to the aims of the project
  • acknowledge potential problem areas and consider alternatives
  • have adequate support for the project

 

Relevance to Industry

Research must:

  • show adequate relevance to the transport industry
  • provide support that it is applicable within the trade
  • be appropriate to the current (or future) trends within the industry
  • propose how it could be incorporated into the system, if not already present
  • not be out-dated

 

Presentation

Abstracts must:

  • clearly state the primary theme or purpose
  • contain properly sequenced ideas
  • have depth of communications appropriate to the audience
  • include words and terms appropriate to the audience
  • not exceed the length appropriate to the competition
  • follow punctuation, spelling and formatting conventions
  • observe correct grammar in the written text
  • secure the audience’s attention at the beginning
  • use visual aids when appropriate
    use the correct level of formality

YEAR2012 Judges


The role of the YEAR2012 Judges is to analyse, review, assess and grade the submitted abstracts. All submitted abstracts will be published on the website and will be subject to an on-line assessment by the judging panel. Each abstract will be reviewed and graded according to the outlined criteria. The judging panel will shortlist approximately 30 students (up to about 5 per pillar) and once agreed upon these finalists will be invited to attend the TRA2012 Conference in Athens, Greece in April 2012 to exhibit their research.

The Judges will consist of transportation experts and stakeholders involved in TRA 2012 from organisations such as ECTRI, FEHRL, ERTRAC, CEDR, EURNEX and the EC, and they may include university professors, industry experts, roads authority experts etc.

A list of the Judges will be made available nearer to the competition deadline.
